Leading Innovation and Driving Transformation

Today’s CIO is uniquely positioned to lead innovation and drive transformation across the modern enterprise. That’s an indisputable fact.  The real question is this: Will CIOs seize the day? Will they leverage their opportunities to become truly transformational leaders?

Naturally, I’m hoping that CIOs will step up and demonstrate their leadership abilities. My hope is based on more than my own personal interest in seeing CIOs succeed. It’s based on my firm belief that successful companies need transformational CIOs. It’s really that simple. I can’t think of a successful company today that doesn’t have a great IT team and great IT leadership.

In today’s economy, business and IT are inseparable. You can’t have one without the other.

Innovation is the driving force of business growth. It’s also the engine of transformation. CIOs can – and should – take responsibility for driving transformational strategies leading to business success.

The three of the most important strategic resources required for continuous change and improvement already reside within the IT portfolio: mobile, social and cloud computing.

This is a singular moment in the history of information technology. The CIO is responsible for three incredibly powerful levers of transformation. That’s not an exaggeration. It’s the truth.

Mobile, social and cloud computing are game-changers. Taken together, they are fundamentally re-arranging human culture. CIOs can play a key role in this amazing global transformation, or they can sit on the sidelines and let others run with the ball.

Now is the time for CIOs to seize the day. Be the rock stars, be the heroes, be the transformational leaders.

You can do it. If you’re an IT executive, you are uniquely qualified to provide leadership in the modern enterprise. Step up and enjoy your moment in the sun. You deserve it.
